Spiced Plum Martini

Quite a few years ago, I used to have Martini Mondays. Then I added Martini Tuesdays. Then Martini Wednesdays. I know that sounds like I was a total lush, but I promise I wasn't. I just really enjoyed a martini after work. And it was only one. That little habit only lasted for about a month anyways and then it just...fizzled. I recently remembered those days and decided I should go back to having a martini every now and then. Since I revisited them I've only made a couple over the past few months but they've been some of the best martinis I've ever had.

This one actually happened by chance. I wanted something fruity and I thought back to the types of martinis I used to drink. This was before my 'I have to make everything' phase so I used the bottled drink mixes. Target used to have really good ones and apple flavor was my favorite. I scoured the cabinet for some of those martini mixed I used to use but found that they had all expired. A while ago. Gross. My mind was already set on a fruity martini so I had no choice but to scrounge around for an alternative to the mixes. After seeing plums in the fruit basket, I thought I'd give it a go. I was leery at first, but this turned out to be the best martini - maybe even overall drink - I've ever had. Ever. It's sweet, but not overwhelming and the balance of ingredients is just perfect. A hint of cinnamon adds a little warmth that makes this drink perfect for cool nights.

Spiced Plum Martini

 1 oz vodka
 1/2 oz triple sec
 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
 1/2 oz simple syrup
 dash cinnamon

Directions

Make simple syrup: Bring equal parts water and white sugar to boil in saucepan. Boil for 5-7 minutes until sugar is dissolved and mixture is starting to thicken. Remove from heat and cool completely.
